His participation in the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia from which England come out as winners, meant that he was awarded the highly prestigious accolade of MBE
For his teams (firstly Northampton Saints, then CA Brive in France and now Sale Sharks in Manchester) Ben has always been first choice to play on the wing in all matches.
Ben is now training to become a Rugby Coach with the RFU (Rugby Football Union) and is currently voluntarily working with both the men’s and women’s teams at Northampton University.
Ben Cohen – EQUALITY & DIVERSITY
Over the years Ben has attracted a loyal following of gay supporters, firstly because of his good looks and sex appeal, but lately because of his willingness to speak out against homophobic bullying and harassment.
“I am passionate about standing up against homophobia and feel compelled to take action. It is time we stand up for what is right and support young people who are being harmed. As athletes, it is not enough just to have strong bodies. We must have strong characters and use our voices to support those who need and deserve it,”
In 2008 Ben was voted top sportsman by Gay Times readers and Top Gay Icon by The Sunday Times (knocking football player David Beckham off the top slot).
2011 see’s Ben setting up his anti-bullying organization The Ben Cohen Stand Up Foundation which is being launched by his Acceptance Tour 2011 in the UK and the USA.
Ben Cohen - MOTIVATIONAL
Ben was told when he was a boy that he ‘....wouldn’t make a rugby player all the time he had a ......’. His sheer determination and hard work proved his critics wrong. He admits he was not a natural rugby player but had the passion and ‘grit’ to practice, practice and practice until he got it right. The ethos of a true sportsman.
Ben admits that he has also made some mistakes which he has had to face up to, admit he was wrong and start again – in his business, sporting and personal life.
Ben Cohen – The Man
Ben’s stories have great humour and he is a natural raconteur. He has 15 years of rugby tales to share and now he is nearing the end of his career he has more time available for speaking engagements.
As a father of young twin girls, he also has a lot to say about how becoming a Dad changed his life – for the better of course.
Ben is visual, personable and passionate about what he believes in. He is versatile with his subject matter and will satisfy a wide variety of tastes as a speaker.
He is willing to travel throughout the world to fulfil engagements.
