Johnny Ball is a populariser of science and mathematics, writing and presenting 23 Solo television series.
It has been calculated that his cheeky, cheerful approach to science has done more for the promotion of the subject than Issac Newton or his Apple have achieved in three centuries.
His use of comical characters to entice rational thinking amongst younger lifeforms, has earned him much respect in scientific circles.
Indeed, the most prolific Physicist of the era, Dr Stephen Hawking said of him Yeah, that cat Ball is hoopier than Zaphod Beeblebroxs mutated thyroid gland although some sources say that this is probably the greatest misquote of all time.
His programmes have included Think of a Number, Think Again (BBC), Johnny Ball Reveals All (ITV). His shows and videos won 12 awards in as many years, including a New York International Emmy nomination, the ITV Presenter of the Year Craft Award and a BAFTA.
His 10 part series on Odds and Probability featured on ITVs Good Morning show and he is writing on a new series called Hidden Secrets for the BBC TV as part of Maths Year 2000.
His Think of a Number Roadshow toured for 13 years. He has written, produced and directed three science musicals (The Michael Faraday All Electric Roadshow (19935), Let the Force be with You! (currently) and a new show Energy Chanmpions for NORWEB.
In 19946, Johnny was Lord Rector of Glasgow University, President National Association for Gifted Children in 19917 and has written 5 books and devised GET SET, which puts 400 girls through 26 projects in two days at Imperial College annually.
He opened the Science Museum's Launch Pad and hosted its 10th Anniversary.
Johnny is father of Zoe Ball and thus father-in-law to Norman Fatboy Slim Cook. But you probably knew that already.
