Rainer Hersch

If you can't tell a violin from a cello, mistake Clayderman for Chopin, or you've ever wondered what you should think about at a classical concert, Rainer Hersch, the world's first classical music hooligan provides a radical re-education in the arts. Rainer Hersch's style blends straight stand-up with hilarious visual comedy. In 1996 after a series of one-man show successes, Rainer combined his comedy with his fanaticism for classical music to produce All Classical Music Explained - a truly original approach to the difficult subjects of 'How to play instruments without practising', 'Why is organ music so boring?' and 'What do conductors actually do?'.
As a solo performer or accompanied by his gifted, but rather eccentric orchestra, Rainer deconstructs musical myths before engaging on a musical odyssey, lampooning such greats as the William Tell Overture and the Largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony. Rainer recorded a Radio 4 series based on All Classical Music Explained and the comedy series Rainer Hersch's 20th Century for Radio 3.
