Alan Davies is one of the UK’s best known actors and comedians. Starring in the BBC hit series Jonathan Creek for an incredible 13 years, Alan became synonymous with the quirky, magic conjuring, crime-solving eponymous character. The series returned to the small screen in 2013 and buy 2016 had 5 series in total.
Aside from Jonathan Creek, Alan Davies has enjoyed a hugely varied acting career to date with credits including playing the lead in Whites, Bob and Rose, and The Brief. He has also had supporting roles in the teen film Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging, and in ITV’s detective series’ Lewis, and Hotel Babylon.
QI:
Now a mainstay of the long running comedy trivia quiz show QI, Alan was the much maligned team captain, alongside host Stephen Fry and a myriad of guest stars. QI started in 2003 and twenty years later it has so far produced just short of 300 episodes. Stephen Fry stepped down as QI master in 2015, with the position taken up by it’s current QI Master Sandi Toksvig.
As Yet Untitled:
He was also the host of his own TV programme Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled. This is a long running chat show which started in 2014. Four guests normally from a comedy background, sit round a table and talk about everything and anything. It’s totally unscripted and only at the end of the show, a title is chosen.
Performing stand up since the early ’90’s, Alan Davies won the Edinburgh Festival Critics Award. This was in 1994. He then went on to tour his show, Urban Trauma, in 1998. After a brief hiatus from the stand up circuit, Alan returned to the stage in 2012. This was with his hit tour, Life is Pain.
Book:
In 2020 Alan published his second autobiography Just Ignore Him. The book became a Book of the week on Sara Cox’s BBC2 “Between the Covers” talk show.
