Hugh Brown

Hugh Brown was born in Ayr and attended Ayr Grammar School as indeed did the Bard, Rabbie Burns.
At an early age Hugh became engrossed by the bard's work and it later inspired him to engage in Burns Suppers.Hugh has been very fortunate to be invited to speak at many prestigious venues including the legendary Farmers Club in London and several others in England. Hugh's travels on the Burns trail have taken him all over the world and to Canada in 2010, where he spoke at 3 Burns Suppers in one week!
Whilst with West Sound Radio for some 25 years, Hugh Brown was involved in covering World Snooker and also reading the half time and full time football results. During this period, he was part of the West Sound Sports Roadshow, where he participated at various events in venues throughout the central belt of Scotland.
In 2006 Hugh was voted Wit of the Year at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow where the audience are given the opportunity to vote for the speaker of their choice. He was elated to have spoken on the evening with Fred MacAulay, Austin Lafferty and 2 other speakers and came out top. Hugh followed up that success by winning the Wit of the Year 2011, in Edinburgh.
His speaking has taken Hugh to places far and wide, including New Zealand, Finland, Zimbabwe and North America. In the Uk, Hugh has had the good fortune of speaking with some of the best speakers on the circuit including, Jack Charlton, Dennis Taylor, Fred MacAulay, Bob (the cat) Bevan from London and TV fame, Dougie Donnelly, Tom O'Conner, Ally McCoist, Jim Baxter and numerous others.
Hugh is equally at home as a main speaker or indeed hosting an event, which he has done on many occasions at Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle and other top venues in the UK.
Hugh's other great passion is snooker and he is considered one of the UK's top referees. In 2008, Hugh was appointed head referee and tutor examiner for the American Snooker Association, the first non American ever to hold that post. He was also master of ceremonies at the inaugural 3 man snooker event in California some years ago.
Hugh is a really funny and engaging speaker, with a keen eye for detail and a razor sharp wit.
