Dominic Gill

 Dominic Gill
Dominic Gill grew up in the decidedly unadventurous comfort of Oxfordshire, where he spent long hours feeding cows, spying on the neighbours with his sister in the tree house, and having cello lessons sitting on a cushion in the garden, since he was too small and puny to sit on a proper chair. With encouragement from his family his horizons quickly broadened, and worried by efforts to extend his spying stations along the elderly neighbor's fence, his mother often took him climbing and his father taught him to row. And so the seed was sewn and adventurous sports took over. After his first mountaineering trip in Switzerland at the age of twelve his Mother died on her way to the Himalayas, but not before fuelling her son with the power to dream of distant lands and challenging adventures. By the end of his Biology degree in London, he had climbed in Kazakhstan and Europe and lived in Canada, exploring the blanker parts of the north.

Dominic flirted briefly with a life as an environmental consultant in Manchester where hed moved to be closer to the hills and save money. After only a year he ran away preferring the varied nature of the odd carpentry contract and numerous mountaineering forays. This however, was not sufficient, and soon started planning adventures of much larger proportions.

It was in 2006 that Dominic set of on his epic two year tandem cycling journey (Take A Seat), which took him from Alaska in the far North, to the most southerly city in South America, a journey of 18,449 miles. On the route, Dominic filmed almost 200 hours of footage which was shown here in the UK and in the US.

Early 2011, saw Dominic was back on his bike, this time involving 10 disabled riders joining him as he travelled across the United States. The programme, called 'Take A Seat, sharing a Ride Across America' became a successful 10 part series which was shown on cable in the USA.

In June 2011 Dominic embarked on his most recent adventure, when he took his tandem to Egypt. Little did he know, that he would arrive in the country at a time of great political upheaval and unrest. He spent three months cycling 4,000km, starting and ending in Cairo. Again the journey was filmed, so watch out for it coming soon on your TV screens.

What Dominic Gill feel separates him from the majority of die hard adventurers, is his drive to share his adventure with others, using companionship and sometimes blind trust to help him achieve his goals.
