Shaf Rasul (Dragons Den)

 Shaf Rasul (Dragons Den)
Edinburgh based IT and property entrepreneur Shaf Rasul, is one of Scotland's most successful businessmen and according to the recent Sunday Times Rich List, has an estimated wealth of 48 million pounds.

The son of a newsagent, Shaf studied corporate law at Strathclyde University. He chose not to follow a career in the Law and instead, decided to try his hand in business. He set out on his entrepreneurial journey in the early nineties and by 1999 Shaf Rasul was already a self-made multi-millionaire. In that year Shaf Rasul formed E-Net computers. Ten years on the business is now the largest storage media distributor in Europe and one the biggest buyers of optical storage products in the world. The business has developed partnerships with the world's top optical media manufacturers and has retained supply agreements with a wide portfolio of web-stores and high-street retail chains. A global import export hub in Dubai and a five million pound distribution centre at Edinburgh Airport have also been established to support the growth of the business which recorded peak sales of 67.2 million pounds during 2004-05. As well as masterminding the growth of E-Net Computers, Rasul has also developed a venture capital investment portfolio, worth in the region of 30 million pounds, which focuses on property, asset management and internet technology.

In 2006, Shaf was nominated for the Ernst and Young Scottish Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was ranked 19th in a Management Today 2008 survey of the UK's top 100 entrepreneurs. He has also been included in the Asian 100, a list of the most successful members of the British Asian community.

His profile has steadily risen and Shaf now features in an online version of the BBC's hugely successful Dragons Den, alongside American entrepreneur Julie Meyer and host Dominic Byrne of the Chris Moyles Radio 1 Breakfast Show. The show is now being screened weekly on BBC2 with the first episode shown on Wednesday 16th September 2009.

Shaf describes himself as fun, sharp, dynamic, innovative, creative, original, and a complete workaholic.

Despite being one of Scotland's busiest and most successful entrepreneurs, Shaf still finds time to pursue other interests such as business mentoring and motor sport. In September 2009 Shaf started writing a regular business column in The Scottish Sun newspaper.
