Jane McCarry is Isa. She is a Bafta award winning actress and comedienne. She graduated from Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh in 1992 and worked as a secondary school teacher covering mainstream, behaviour support and working with young people with complex needs in a variety of Glasgow schools. Jane has worked extensively in both theatre, television and radio throughout the UK ever since.
Throughout her career, Jane has worked with a number of all time Scottish favourites including Rikki Fulton and Jimmy Logan.
Jane McCarry is Scotland’s best known OAP, not bad for a 40 something! Her character ”Isa Drennan” in BBC Scotland’s Still Game is one of the best loved and funniest on Scottish Television.
Whether you know her as Isa, the local gossip from the BBC’s hugely successful ”Still Game”, or worldly-wise Granny Murray from the Cbeebie’s hit show ”Me Too” (an unfortunate title in this climate), you cant fail to enjoy a blether with Jane.
2020 was meant to see Jane McCarry as Isa embark on a tour with her auld pals Mark Cox (Tam) and Paul Riley (Winston) called “Still Gaun”. This show was booked to open in Greenock in June 2020 and tour until mid November. Unfortunately Covid put a halt to that but we are hoping to see new dates for this coming very soon.
Out with her acting career, Jane is gaining an enviable reputation as a stylish awards host and is one of SpeakOut’s top after dinner speakers. With her excellent comedic timing and theatrical anecdotes, just dont expect to get a word in edge ways.
Jane is also a fine Burns performer and her Reply to the Toast to the Lassies is always superb.
