Environmentalist David Bellamy is one of the most recognisable faces and voices in conservation and ecology today. He is an international consultant, television presenter, author of 45 books, and winner of an Environmental Communicator of the Year Award and a Guild of Travel Writers Special Award. His autobiography was published in 2002.

Professor Bellamy has written and presented over 400 television programmes on botany, ecology, and the environment. Memorable programmes include Life in our Sea, Bellamy's Britain, Up a Gum Tree, Backyard Safari and numerous appearances on the children's classic programme Blue Peter, which helped to introduce generations of children to nature and science.

Professor Bellamy began his career as a Lecturer in Botany at the University of Durham in 1960, becoming Professor of Adult and Continuing Education at the University of Durham in 1982 and Special Professor of Geography at the University of Nottingham in 1987. From 1989 to 1991, he was Visiting Professor of Natural Heritage Studies at Massey University in New Zealand and he is also an Honorary Professor of the University of Central Queensland . In addition, Professor Bellamy has found time to be the president of a variety of environmental foundations and associations, including the Conservation Foundation, the Wildlife Trusts Partnership, Population Concern, Plantlife, the National Association for Environmental Education, the British Naturalists Association, and the Galapagos Conservation Trust he is a trustee or patron of other organisations too numerous to mention here.

Professor Bellamy was awarded an OBE in 1994 for his outstanding contribution and work.
