His journalistic career spans over 40 years and he is the longest-serving breakfast television anchorman in Britain – if not the world!
EARLY DAYS:
Eamonn started his TV career with Ulster TV in the late 70’s and 80’s. He covered everything from rural matters and sport to beauty pageants. It wasn’t long before Eamon was doing the News along with Current Affairs and he took over from Gloria Hunniford as the main anchor on Good Evening Ulster. It was here he received his first of many awards. By 1986 he was at the BBC doing daytime television.
GMTV was next in 1993 and he stayed there for 12 years before leaving and joining Sky News to host the 3-hour “Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes” programme . Eamonn was again to reign as the king of breakfast television. During this time Eamonn Holmes was hosting the National Lottery game show on BBC which he did for six years up until 2007. By 2006 Eamon was part of the team on ITV1’s This Morning, hosting the Friday edition alongside real life partner Ruth Langsford.
RECENT TIMES:
In 2021 Eamon left This Morning to join GB News where he presents their breakfast show.
Outwith The National Lottery Jet Set, Eamonn has presented top-rated, prime-time quiz shows. These include “Sudo-Q” for BBC Two and “The Rich List” for Fox TV in America. He fronted ITV’s prime time series “The Feelgood Factor”, along with Myleene Klass.
He has won the Television, Radio & Industry Club’s award for Best Satellite and Digital TV Personality for two years running and has received honorary doctorates from Queens University Belfast and Staffordshire University.
Father of four Eamonn is a news and sports junkie and a passionate Manchester United fan. Furthermore, he has a great knowledge and love of soccer, as well as several other sports. He divides his time between Belfast – where he lives, London – where he works, and Manchester – where he worships!
Eamonn’s release his autobiography “This is MY Life” in 2006. In 2018 was awarded an OBE for his services to broadcasting.
