Simon Amstell

 Simon Amstell
Simon Amstell became a household name as the presenter of POPWORLD - Channel 4s weekly pop programme. In his youth, Amstell was the youngest finalist of the BBC NEW COMEDY AWARDS.

It didn't take long for Nickelodeon to see his potential. Then came POPWORLD which Simon co-hosted with Miquita Oliver since January 2000 until this March.

Simon performs regularly on the stand-up circuit and hosted his own sell-out show at the Pleasance during 2005's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He returns with his first pure stand-up show this year.

His guest appearances have included NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS on BBC2 and Channel 4's 8 OUT OF 10 CATS. He regularly appears on Xfm, standing in for Adam and Joe on Saturday afternoons, and in 2005, he co-hosted an Xfm show with Lauren Laverne. In 2005 he hosted Channel 4's coverage of the Wireless Festival, and in 2004, co-hosted coverage of the V Festival.

2006 saw Simon take over as the host and face of Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Simon, who had guest hosted an episode of the BBC TWO show joined as full-time host from October 2006.

At the time Simon said 'I hope I can be the one exception to the universal, exceptionless rule that when a new host takes over an old show it is a horrible embarrassing disaster. It's going to be great! Woo!'

In 2009 Simon left the show to concentrate on other things including his sell out tours.

Bill Bailey and Phill Jupitus continue as team captains on Buzzcocks, joined each week by celebrity guests showing off their musical know-how and demonstrating why pop music should never be taken too seriously.

Heat Magazine best young presenter on TV, Simon Amstell, who not only has a scarily encyclopaedic knowledge of music for one so young, but hes also a one-man advert for geek chic.

The Times Simon Amstell is at once the David Dimbleby, Howard Stern and Johnny Rotten for a generation of chart-smart pre-pubescents

Popjustice.com 'Simon off Popworld is the mightiest of them all!

Heat Magazine '...Simon is so enjoyable (on Xfm)that we've almost forgotten all about Ricky Gervais...'
