Jeremy Vine is BBC Radio 2’s popular lunch time presenter of The Jeremy Vine Show. He was also the regular presenter of the award winning current affairs programme Panorama on BBC One. Jeremy is the brother of comedian Tim Vine.
Early Days
Jeremy was in his early 20’s when he started working in radio. It was during this time he took a course in journalism before joining the BBC in 1987. He read the news on BBC Northern Ireland and was frequently heard on Radio 4’s Today programme. It took almost eight years before TV saw Jeremy Vine become a familiar face as a political reporter.
South Africa was next, where Jeremy was based in Johannesburg as BBC’s Africa Correspondent. He was often seen in the middle of war zones and reporting on elections, often interviewing some of the most important political figures and statesmen like Robert Mugabe. Jeremy won his first award with a report on South Africa’s police brutality which aired on Newsnight, a programme which in 1999 he became a co-presenter.
Back in the UK Jeremy produced election graphics, taking over from Peter Snow. Peter’s legendary Swingometer was retained.
Next was Panorama which Jeremy presented for three years from 2007. He also presented Points of View and in 2008 he started hosting Eggheads. Other shows included Crimewatch, The One Show and appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox.
Jeremy Vine is a popular after dinner speaker, conference facilitator and awards host.
