Dermot Murnaghan

Dermot Murnaghan presents Sky News and Murnaghan, a weekly agenda setting news programme. He joined with Sky in 2008 after six years with the BBC as the main BBC Breakfast News presenter. Before joining the BBC, Dermot spent more than a decade fronting ITV's national news bulletins from London.
During his time with the BBC, Dermot presented a number of other BBC programmes, including Treasure Hunt on BBC Two, with Suzi Perry.
Whilst working on BBC Breakfast he said it was challenging. Getting up at 3.30am was tough. It was diverse - it was like no other programme he had ever worked on. It encompassed everything from the Middle East peace process to the latest Jilly Cooper novel.
In 1998, Dermot won a Royal Television Society award for his revelatory interview with Peter Mandelson over the Geoffrey Robinson loan affair. The day after the interview, Mandelson resigned from the government.
After graduating with an MA in History from Sussex University, Dermot completed a postgraduate course in Journalism at City University.
He worked as a trainee reporter on local newspapers before joining Channel 4 as a researcher then reporter for The Business Programme.
He then moved to Switzerland to present the European Business Channel before being recalled to front ITN's World News on Channel 4 Daily.
Of his time at Breakfast, Dermot says Apart from the early starts, which were tough, I cannot think of anything else I would rather have done. What got me through is that I knew without a shadow of a doubt that no one day was ever the same as another.
Dermot is superb as a host and also an excellent after dinner speaker.
