None of which could be said to be 'run of the mill' - programming - and this is the essence of Kate - full of enthusiastic pioneering spirit.

Rough Science has established itself as a rock of BBC2 scheduling - having graduated from its first series origins as an Open University programme - and Kate has become its figurehead and catalyst.

The Abyss tapped in to Kate's love for the sea, and to her love of diving as she took us beneath the waves of the Cayman Islands.

She made a stunning debut on BBC 1's live City Hospital late in 2001 and joined the series proper in 2002 (presenting 3 x series) and at the same time joining the new Tomorrow's World.

Kate entered the new millennium presenting TOP GEAR, examining rural matters for BBC's Country File, adding 3 x series from the parkland of Longleat (Animal Park) and joining the team for Rolf's Amazing Animals - including a report on dancing bears in India.

Research and then reporting for Summer Holiday and Holidays Out (Paragliding, Whitewater rafting, Polo, etc.) became reporting for Holiday with reports from Nepal (trekking) and Kipungani Bay.

By now a Holiday regular, Kate was given the task of training as a Rep for Club 18-30 for Fasten Your Seat Belt '98! - emerging from a testing experience with flying colours - Salvation came via the Dominican Republic and Australia for Holiday '98.

Identified by now as a girl who'll have a crack at most things, Kate researched and presented her own mini-series - Humble Holidays - finding the most fun for the least money then fronted Holiday on a Shoestring.

Her introduction to Top Gear came when she contributed to a wetter spin-off 'Waterworld' from a mechanical whale!

On dry land she presented The Essential Guide To Rocks. BBC 2 after which she fronted BBC TVs introduction to the internet series - Web Wise.

A serious traveller and writer, Kate began '99 on the back of a camel in Mali, since when she has walked the plains of Chile and recently explored the wilder parts of the Far East.
