Born in Edinburgh and brought up in Dunfermline, Willie had been a Physical education teacher since 1984, eventually becoming principal Teacher of Phsical Education at Buckhaven High School in Fife in 1994.
Willie has been surrounded by sport over the years, primarily with rugby but also with golf and tennis. He re-established the game of rugby at Buckhaven High School with the formation of the Internationally famous Buckhaven Sharks! Willie eventually retired in 2016 and in 2017 he was awarded an MBE for his services to youth rugby and charity.
A keen sportsman, Willie spent 13 seasons as a non-tackling stand-off with Dunfermline Rugby Club. He has also represented the North and Midlands. Unfortunately Willie was forced to give up the game due to a serious knee injury after which he concentrated his efforts in coaching.
Willie has been on the after dinner speaker circuit since 1992. He has performed at a variety of venues and top hotels throughout the UK however, the vast majority of his work is in the corporate market where 'The Herald' described him as "probably the best after dinner speaker in Scotland". He is comfortable chairing a function, directing an auction, and is equally at home with a mixed audience. At a recent dinner 'The Scotsman' described his contribution as "a virtuoso performance" and 'The Times' stated that he was "a very funny man".
As a school teacher in the East of Fife, Willie obtained a considerable amount of source material from his experience with 'young people'! " It was your motivational session which proved to be the highlight of the evening and provided us all with much to think and indeed laugh about. Your views on personal discipline, people management skills, leadership and motivation in the workplace were particularly interesting and valuable to us all."
Bob Clark Director and GM Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd
''The dinner continued the conference pattern of quality, informality and no hype. The only speech was by Willie Allan who showed that it was possible to be very funny and very irreverent without the ''blue'' material that is a feature of too many second rate speakers at second rate conference dinners.''
Jim Bannister Institute of Risk Management Annual Conference- Queens College Cambridge University.
