Gordon Angus Deayton was a student at Oxford. He joined in a revue in Edinburgh called ‘You’ll Have Had Your Tea By Now’, which evolved into the Radio Four comedy series Radio Active. This in turn became KYTV on the box.
KYTV was a spoof satellite TV show, which set a comedy precedent for The Day Today.
Next came the role of Victor Meldrew’s long-suffering next door neighbour in One Foot In The Grave.
Shortly after this came the show that really made him famous. Sandy Toksvig and Angus Deayton were short-listed to host a new panel show called Have I Got News For You. The choice was made and Angus became the ‘sarky’ one in the middle.
Since his tenure as host of HIGNFY ended in 2002 Angus can be found hosting one-off specials such as Before They Were Famous and Hells Kitchen.
Angus’ acting and TV career has seen him in a number of roles. In 2016 he played the part of a travel guide in the sitcom Benidorm. He was the original presenter of Would I Lie To You for the first two series. In 2019 he appeared in the TV series Death in Paradise and he has narrated Gemma Collins: Diva since 2019. Earlier work has included a part in the 1991 film Mr Bean and not a lot of people know this but Angus also presented Hells Kitchen for three years between 2004 and 2007.
Angus Deayton is an exceptional host and also a superb speaker at awards and corporate dinners.
